Basic Obedience Bridge Course
This course is designed to bridge the gap between basic obedience and Intermediate obedience. While it has many characteristics of the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizens program, it is not. We will be applying Scheurman’s K9 Academy rules and philosophy to this new course. The AKC CGC, allows for repeated commands, this course will continue to enforce the one command one action rule.
While Intermediate encompasses all of this, we have been asked to develop a program that is less expensive. This is our answer to that request.
The areas this new course will cover are areas where new students to the intermediate program have been known to have difficulties.
What you will learn:
- USE OF THE LONG LINE: Knowing the proper use of equipment is essential. This is even truer as the equipment becomes more advanced. The need for proper control and use is important. You will be shown how and when to use a long line to gain control at a given distance. As time permits.
- THROW CHAINS AND THROW DISKS: Are new to most basic students, as they were not needed at that level. They are a very good tool in distance control when used properly as time permits.
- HEELING: Through various heeling patterns we will be improving on your proper heeling. Right and left turns, going through groups, around objects, proper heeling placement and automatic sits, straight sits. As well as better leash control, as time permits.
- RECALL UP TO 20FT: Adding distance to your recall, straight fronts, proper handler stance, proper use of recall aids and praise, as time permits.
- STAND FOR EXAM (CGC STYLE): Teaching your dog stand still in front of you for exam (CGC style). The exam consists of checking teeth, paws, ears and coat as time permits.

- LONG SITS UP TO 20FT: Teaching your dog to do long sit while you are at the end of a 20ft long line. How to control your dog at that distance, what to do if your dog breaks, getting them to stay under distractions, as time permits.

- REACTION TO NOISE: Teaching your dog to do what you are asking it to do while various sounds are present. How to work though your dogs reactions to various sounds as time permits.

Reinforcing the sit straight, standstill, and down properly at your left side, as time permits.
